E-Commerce & Click-and-Collect: Are BC Liquor Stores Falling Behind?
April 20, 2026The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) has announced a policy update that will allow eligible BC liquor manufacturers to offer direct delivery of their packaged beverages to wholesale customers.
Eligible manufacturers will be able to apply for direct delivery in the Spring of 2026. Until then, manufacturers’ beverages will continue to be distributed solely by LDB. In the coming weeks, LDB will release more details about the application process and requirements and responsibilities of licensed manufacturers who are approved for direct delivery.
The update to LDB distribution policies is a major step forward, supporting local producers and improving how products move through the province from the producer to their wholesale customers. By removing LDB from the middle of the delivery chain, distribution will be more efficient with fewer bottlenecks.
What’s Changing
Eligible BC liquor manufacturers will now be permitted to:
- Directly deliver packaged refreshment beverages to approved wholesale customers
- Bypass distribution steps within the LDB system
- Operate with greater flexibility in how products reach wholesale buyers
This update applies specifically to packaged refreshment beverages and does not represent a full overhaul of the existing distribution framework.
Implications for BC Liquor Industry
Based on information from the LDB news release, direct delivery should result in:
- Improved supply chain efficiency
- Fewer handling steps may help streamline product movement
- Increased flexibility for BC liquor manufacturers
- More direct access to manufacturers for buyers
A BC liquor license consultant can help interpret how direct delivery may impact a producer’s operation and compliance, determine eligibility and prepare your application.
What Manufacturers & Wholesale Buyers Should Consider
As with any regulatory change, eligibility and compliance requirements will apply. Manufacturers and wholesale buyers should:
- Monitor further guidance from the LDB
- Confirm eligibility criteria before applying
- Assess how direct delivery could affect their operation (positively or negatively)
- Review how directly delivery fits within existing licensing structures
