Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) has launched Sphere, a new SAP-based Enterprise Resource Planning system designed to modernize how the regulator manages finance, procurement, sales orders and vendor interactions.
According to AGLC’s Welcome to Sphere page, the new system went live on August 11, 2026, replacing and integrating several existing systems. Sphere is intended to improve data accuracy and streamline processes while providing more timely and transparent transactions.
Who Is Affected by Sphere?
The changes affect warehouse providers, suppliers, liquor licensees and cannabis licensees. Sphere affects order-to-cash processes, including how some businesses:
- Submit invoices
- Receive payments
- Manage orders
- Interact with AGLC systems
AGLC has also outlined several payment requirements and changes for Alberta liquor licensees. Liquor licensees should:
- Use the correct licensee number, sales order number and payment code when submitting payment
- Avoid combining payments for multiple orders
- Submit payment correctly and by the required deadline to avoid orders being delayed, held or cancelled
- Be aware that overpayments and liquor credits will no longer be applied to future liquor orders and will instead be refunded directly to the licensee
